There was a whole gaggle of furry faces that passed in front of the Posh Pets‘ lens this week! And each one was adorable and is eagerly awaiting their forever family to come and find them! There is a little more info on each of these future pets on the Posh Pets’ Facebook page, but please contact Toronto Animal Services (North Region) directly to arrange an introduction. And thank you to all that share their lovely images…it really does help in finding them homes.
I know that I have missed a couple of weeks of Project 52, but I am really excited to get back at it! This week’s theme challenged us to use windows in our image which you can see here. This image is a bit of a tribute to one of the pet photographers that helped me start down the path of pet photography, the very talented Bev Hollis. This is Bev’s dog, Lily, in front of Bev’s house in Virginia and was taken during a photography workshop I attended there. I look at it now and smile, for on this fourth day of the workshop, I had such joy in my belly! Doing something you love will do that to you. Thanks Bev!
Next in our blog circle is Central Coast Pet Photographer, Sharon Stokes. Please check out her work and the rest of the Beautiful Beasties gang’s this week!
This post is long overdue! It was back on June 16, 2012 that Posh Pets had the pleasure of participating in Pet Valu’s (located at King & Dufferin) Grand Re-Opening. We had so much fun photographing these lovely furry faces that day! We (and the dogs and the one cat!) were especially thankful to be inside as it really got hot outside…!
Everyone who came out received a complimentary gorgeous 5×7 print of the chosen image, courtesy of Marilyn & David of Pet Valu. We sincerely hope that you enjoy them for years to come!
I’ve managed to place the final images into a little video slide-show, although I must apologize for the colour being overly saturated. As a photographer, I am very new to the video world and it would seem that the video-processing software I used seems to deepen the colours quite a bit. I will have to figure this part out. You can, however, see all of the images over on the Posh Pets Facebook page if you like.
This week was the first time that Posh Pets Photography photographed guinea pigs! They really are very cute and these two in particular, Molly and Millie, are sisters that would love to be adopted together. And there were a lovely group of furry faces, both canine and feline…so something for everyone. Don’t forget that Toronto Animal Services is offering 2-for-1 adoption fees for all cats who find forever homes until August 15, 2012. So, if you have been thinking about a new family member, don’t delay!
All of these lovely furry faces have more information about them on the Posh Pets Facebookpage, so go ahead and check them out. Of course, you can always contact Toronto Animal Services (North Region) directly if you want to meet any of them!
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of meeting the wonderful Chester and Abbey, a beautiful Sheltie and lovely orange tabby cat. Both are currently 8 years old and share their lives with the human members of their family, who quite obviously love them dearly. They also get along with each other famously!
We started their custom photography session in their backyard to capture some of the environment where they spent a lot of their time. But then we moved to a lovely park in Port Credit to take advantage of the beautiful late afternoon light. Chester was a true gentleman, posing as if he were born to it. And he even got to run around a bit. I heard from his mum that he certainly slept well that night!
Chester, you are a delight to spend time with! I love the fringes around your ears and your lovely soft expressions. Your spirit is golden and your’smile’ lights up a room…never change. Thank you so much for allowing us the honour of photographing you!
Here are a few Posh Pets’ favourites of Chester from that afternoon.
Here are this week’s adoptables all looking for a forever home! There are a number of kitties this time around, so please share their faces to help them get a little exposure. And if you see one you like, please contact Toronto Animal Services (North Region) directly and arrange to meet them!
For more information, you can also check out the Posh Pets Facebook page…they are all there gazing back at you!
We met Fritz on a beautiful summer day a few weeks ago (a rare day when it was not blistering hot out). At 13 years of age, Fritz has reached his golden years and shares a quiet life with his human, Maria. As becoming of miniature schnauzer of that age, he took a good long time to check me out and then took to announcing to the neighbourhood that we had become acquainted. However, once the initial introductions were over, he was able to direct his attention to the task at hand…modelling for the Posh Pets‘ camera. Given his affinity for his home, Maria opted for a combination of inside and outside images for Fritz’ custom pet photography session.
It is obvious that he is dearly loved and enjoys a lovely life. When I asked Maria what she loved most about him, she replied that, “he is his own man”…in other words, he lets you into his world on his own terms, but once you are accepted, you are safe there forever. And, he does not forget those he has previously met. The difference in our introduction from our initial pre-session consult to the actual pet photography session was marked. Fritz is truly a gentleman.
Fritz, you are a wonderful boy, intelligent and so full of expression. It was a joy and an honour to photograph you and your images will grace the walls of your home and those overseas for years to come! Thank you for allowing us to spend the afternoon with you.
When you hear of kisses and pets, most people think of lovely, sloppy, doggie kisses. Cats, with their little rough tongues, are not often considered as likely candidates. However, I meet many potential pets as I volunteer each week to take pictures of the adoptables at the local shelter, and it is obvious that each furry face has their own special personality. The odds of me finding a furry someone who likes to kiss increases dramatically every time I step through those doors. Case in point was Carrie, who is pictured here. This little girls is a fantastic kisser…especially if you have treats in your hand. Just look at that little tongue go!
Unbelievably, this 2 year old affectionate girl is still waiting patiently for her forever home, so please share her image far and wide. She is all packed and ready to go at Toronto Animal Services (ID#621755).
Next in the blog ring is fantastic Winston-Salem Steph Skardal Photography. Please check out who kissed her and the rest of the Beautiful Beasties gang this week!
It was a hot morning on Monday when I went in to photograph this week’s adoptables. Dog tongues were hanging out as we found some relief in the shade of a tree. Even the indoor kitties with their fur coats were evidently feeling the heat – I watched as one guy had all four paws in the large water bowl and was happily creating a wave pool with his paw, while simultaneously drinking. His feline friends looked on with curiosity mingled with disdain as he played with their water source.
So, with that, here is this week’s line-up…they are all available and eagerly waiting to meet their forever families at Toronto Animal Services! There is more information about each and everyone of them on the TAS site as well as the Posh Pets’ Facebook page. Please share their furry faces far and wide and let us know if one comes into your home – we love to hear the happy endings!
It is not everyday that Posh Pets is called upon to photograph a celebrity (we are not “pup-parazzi”!), but we got the opportunity a few weeks ago when we were asked to photograph Professor Meowingtons. For the uninitiated, Meowingtons is the happy feline belonging to Joel Zimmerman, who is more famously known as Deadmau5. According to my most recent look at his facebook page, Professor Meowingtons has 99,997 fans! So yes…he is kind of a big deal.
He is also a lovely cat. I hope I am not ruining his reputation here (not sure of his preferred on-line persona), but in person he is a gorgeous, cuddly, totally chill kitty. He was the most lovely host on the day we descended upon his home and graciously allowed us to set up lights and a background, and photograph him for a special project. No, I do not know all of the details of the project. But, this I do know – Professor Meowingtons lives a good life with Deadmau5.
We were asked to produce some images of Meowingtons, on white seamless, staring hard at the camera as well as a few profiles. So, nothing too fancy. But, I am very happy to share one of my favourite images of him. Enjoy!
Ever heard of selective hearing? Apparently, it was an ailment I suffered from all through my teenage years…I listened to what I wanted, and simply “did not hear” the rest. (Of course, the parts that I did not hear were usually the good advice from my parents or anything else that would have been beneficial…)
Selective focus is similar, except it is done very deliberately. It is a technique to have the viewer focus on a particular area of the image, without the photographer having to say a word. This way the viewer can more easily hone in on the parts that are important and disregard the rest.
In honour of this theme, the Posh Pets‘ image was taken on Monday at the shelter. Here is little Kirby, who likes to play hide and seek with the photographer. He wasn’t particularly fond of the camera, so I had to use a long lens so that he would have his personal space. You can see though, that he always had his eyes on me, even as he took refuge in amongst the plants. Focusing on tiny, little Kirby threw the greenery out of focus and now you can clearly see his cute little expression, completely and utterly focused on me.
Kirby is also focused on finding his forever family. You are most welcome to come meet him and his shelter pals at Toronto Animal Services (North Region)!
Next in the blog ring is San Diego Pet Photographer, Karla Ogilvie. Please click through to see what she and the rest of the Beautiful Beasties gang came up with this week!
It was a fine winter morning when the Posh Pets team set out to meet Sally, a beautiful corgi mix. At 13 years old, she was definitely a senior and unfortunately had developed some heart problems. That meant that she was moving a little slower and tired more easily. But, there was absolutely nothing wrong with her figurative heart! It literally brimmed over with love for her humans – and it was clear that they loved her dearly right back. In fact, Sally’s session was a gift from the family to her mom and dad because they knew what an important part Sally was in their lives. And so, we spent a lovely morning together capturing some beautiful images of a very sweet and happy dog.
All too soon, Sally passed away. Such a devastating loss to a family who loved her so much and in whose schedule she was very much a part of. I am told that she enjoyed many a car ride around town, sitting in the passenger seat, next to her Dad. She is mourned in the neighbourhood by the many friends (furry faces and humans) she had, and who now must find a way to cope with her absence. Sally was even famous – for she had been featured in a newspaper article not long ago. She will be missed because she made the live of those around her better.
Sally, you were truly loved and every day with you was cherished by those around you. Your mom and dad would brag about your intelligence and loyalty because they were soooo proud of you, and because, quite simply, they adored you. Your images are stunning and I know that they will continue to be shared far and wide. It was an honour to have met you and captured your sweet spirit.
